Bought a hydraulic switch to put on my '06 X. Followed directions on back of package. Should I have bled the rear brake before turning bike on and checking to see if light worked or not? Also when I started bike to check and see if everything was in working order rear light was normal until I pushed down on rear brake.

It went from bright to 4 dim LED lights and also when brake was pressed the lights went off. What am I doing wrong with this supposed simple procedure?
Did I fry my rear light? Is there anyone out there who recently wired their brake light or has any helpful advice? One black wire and one grey wire go to the stock tail light. Below link is to a x wiring diagram.
I guess what I am needing is which wires to hook to which wires to make hydraulic brake switch work.
Yes, the two wires going to taillight are black and grey. The two leads from the switch are both black.

If equipped with rear brake lights, label and keep factory wires from the brake pedal switch. These wires will be reused to enable the brake. I tested it before I bled my rear brake and this leaves me to wonder if this is the reason it is not working. You should be able to test by checking for continuity on both wires on the switch.

If you put an ohm meter on both wires and press the brake pedal - it should complete the circuit. It is not supposed to matter which wire goes from power to the switch and which one goes to the led tail light. Hydraulic switch just completes a circuit when depressed. One of the hydraulic switch leads goes to the red wire on the tail light and the other to power. Everything should be otay now.

You need to get an aftermarket stator that has an extra winding for a light hookup.

Matthew, It sounds to me that your bike must have some sort of magneto or generator to supply spark to the spark plug.
I would suggest to tap directly into one of those power supplies in order to wire up a brake light on your bike considering you have a salvaged brake switch from an old cycle?
