Sounds like a decent guy. I know. Then, his jealous nature reared its ugly head and he started acting like a jerk. When he used his cane to restrain Alexa against her office wall, ignoring her commands to release her, I was done with him. Not in the real world anyway. Controlling much, Casey?
I do have to say that the story was very enjoyable and I liked how it started out. Jun 25, Jamie rated it did not like it. Gosh this was a bad book. It was free but man I didn't like that I wasted my time on it. Seeing the cover and the title I thought I was picking up a quick sexy romance book to read This book is as boring as boy meets girl and decides to pursue her. There was no action, suspense, tension, The sex in the book was overwritten huffing and puffing.
The writing wasn't good, the editing was bad and the formatting sucked. Since the "cougar" in the book is Gosh this was a bad book. Since the "cougar" in the book is 50, maybe I could see an older crowd appreciating this book more than me. View all 4 comments.

This was okay but only okay. No more, no less. I needed something light and it was definitely that. I did not like the main male character at all. That made it hard to cheer on Alexa the Cougar knowing he was a giant d-bag. At about 50 percent I nearly quit reading but because it was a short book I kept going.
I won't be continuing this series. Sep 07, Teresa rated it did not like it. Yawn yawn I haven't skim read so much for ages! Boring story, crap sex scenes. Oh and I forgot to mention the bit where he wants to lay there All night you know doing nothing May 10, brandi rated it really liked it. Of course I think that since I am married to a man 11 years my junior this subject really hit home with me. May 22, Lori McD rated it liked it Shelves: romanceeasy-rea chick-littear-jerkerfemale-bondingsome-steamkindle-bookcontemporarysocial-issuesown.
It's hot. It's meaty, in that it has well-developed characters who don't play by anyone's rules but their own. The 2 main leads have their own issues and are strong, forceful people. They fight - a lot. They love - deeply. They struggle with age differences and life and finances and all the things that we "normal" folk do. Alexa is a 50 year old former fashion model 3. Alexa is a 50 year old former fashion model who owns her own lingerie line.
Because her 1st husband is such a financial whiz, she's also co-owner or part-owner of many other businesses, including local Falls Church restaurants and gyms. She's been on her own for many years, raising her daughter with some help from her ex.
But she hasn't had a real love relationship since her ex - almost 30 years ago now. She's surrounded by wonderful, loving, supportive friends Lauren "The Saint" and Dr. Regina the sex therapist and her daughter, Jenna. But Alexa's past relationships often made the press, because of her celebrity status. Her daughter thinks she flirts too much. Alexa's only gone for the attraction-physical in so long, she doesn't know how to be part of a real relationship now, and she's sure that at 50, she's past her prime anyway.
Casey is a 38 year old retired Marine. He retired, because during his last duty at an embassy, a bomb resulted in him having a hip replacement. He's still got limited mobility, but he's all Marine, so he sucks it up and uses a cane when necessary. Casey also lost his wife, Susan, to cancer around the same time, so the man's had some things to deal with. Casey and Alexa meet because Jenna her daughter is dating Seth, Casey's cousin. Seth is only 8 or so years younger than Casey, but when Seth's parents died when he was 12, Casey was 20 and already married to Susan.
Casey and Susan took in Seth and raised him. So Seth and Jenna obviously want their "parents" to meet. No one expects the instant chemistry and sparks! While there's some of the expected age-difference debates, it doesn't drag down the book. Alexa is concerned and aware of the age difference, but she doesn't wear it like a martyr.
The book's focus is really on these 2 people with an instant and constant attraction trying to figure out if there's MORE than just a physical connection between them. And if they scratch the itch, will it all just go away? And is that a bad thing or a good thing? An instance of Casey being the hero that he is turns tragic. And we have to deal with the uncertainty of life-and-death.
Then, we struggle through a realistic issue, but one that feels non-organic and manufactured for this couple and this story. Yes, it brought tears to my eyes several times, but somehow the momentum of this wonderful story just I'm not sure if it ever completely recovered.
I appreciate the author's attempt to bring real-life in.
For the most part, it worked and gave this book a freshness and excitement to it - for me. But the very last part of the book just didn't fit neatly. And THAT is what felt off to me. But I do intend to try the next book in the series, so this author definitely has captured my attention!
Feb 08, C Joy rated it it was amazing Shelves: contemporary-romanceebooksmilitary. I got this free on Amazon about a year ago but it's only now I came around to reading it.
I gave this a 5-star rating cause I found it light and interesting. I loved the characters, the crazy friends and family connections, how determined Casey was to win Alexa over and convince her he's serious about her.
It's amazing how the author wrote of age being just a number cause Casey and Alexa are very well matched. They complement each other and find the other's faults endearing. Alexa is an alpha I got this free on Amazon about a year ago but it's only now I came around to reading it.
Alexa is an alpha female but Casey wasn't intimidated by this. He's really into her for the long haul. The supporting characters were also fun to read about and I hope Jenna and Seth would reconcile since it's obvious it's really not over between them.
I also liked Alexa's friends, another good example of opposites attract. I'm looking forward to reading the next, which is Regina's story. Who would be the sex therapist's match? Jun 14, Dana rated it it was ok Shelves: kindled. Decent plot idea, poor execution. Appears to be self-published and badly in need of an editor.
Since these facts are mentioned over and over and over again in the book, you'd think that the age difference is the problem they need to overcome in their story on their way to true love. It's not, and it doesn't even make a difference in the book. The real obstacles seem to be 1 that Alexa's daughter was Decent plot idea, poor execution. The age difference at this point is completely superfluous to the plot, which may be why it's shoehorned in at every opportunity.
While it was a decent diversion, it's not enough to make me want to read the rest of the series. Sep 02, Kim rated it really liked it Shelves: must-read-romance.
I have to say I really enjoyed this book. I picked it up because it was a freebie and now definitely want to continue on with the series. Alexa Ranger was such a hot character, she even had a hot name. Casey was just the perfect match for her. He never backed down from a fight, and wasn't intimidated by her success. These two had some funny bickering back and forth that really had me I have to say I really enjoyed this book.
These two had some funny bickering back and forth that really had me laughing, and some good, but not great love scenes, but they were good enough. Thos is my first read from this author, and i can't wait to read more about this group of friends. This was a book that I really wanted to like but as much as I tried I just could not. I am one of those people who once they have started to read a book has got to finish it and I really struggled getting to the end.
The storyline and characters were so tedious! Alexa and Casey it was all argue, be petty, make up, argue, be petty, make up. It was seriously horrendous!

Alexa's daughter Jenna who was supposed to be in her 20's acted more like a 14 year old teenager throwing paddy's left right and This was a book that I really wanted to like but as much as I tried I just could not. Alexa's daughter Jenna who was supposed to be in her 20's acted more like a 14 year old teenager throwing paddy's left right and centre.
You didn't care for the characters at all and the author could have done so much more with the character development let alone the plot! The story was all about the "relationship" which was mediocre and no story progression.
Very disappointed. The worst book I have read in years.
Mar 10, Vikki Vaught rated it it was ok Shelves: romanceamericanalpha-malevikki-s-musingssensualaudioseries. Vikki's Musing This is very unusual for me. It is extremely rare for me to give below 3 stars, but I really struggled with this one. I almost stopped listening several times. I didn't care the heroine at all, and I wasn't that fond of the hero either.
Both do some fairly stupid things. I don't want to give ant details. Let's just say both of them do not act their age. I thought the author might redeem this one toward the end, but then it fell flat. I also did Vikki's Musing This is very unusual for me.
I also did not care for the narrator very much either, but I don not think she influenced my opinion of the book. Happy reading! May 13, Donadee's Corner rated it it was amazing. I was looking for a light comedy read and was surprised too find a great read. This was a lot more than a romance book, it was well developed with very real characters.

I am a bit disappointed at what I am taking away from this story. I need to somehow become hot and wealthy and then perhaps I can find a loving relationship with a man as long as he has a disability and baggage.

Jan 18, Sophia rated it really liked it Shelves: contemporary-romance. The story itself was told from multiple points of view and revolved around the attraction and romance of Alexa Ranger, a fifty year old divorced, former model and now wealthy businesswoman and Casey Carter, disabled Marine vet and widower.
Alexa has become a hard woman and a cynic while Casey is just coming out of mourning his wife and is hopeful when he feels attraction for the first time since his wife died. The two together are more volatile than oil and water- more like oil and a lit match. Alexa has a temper and is determined that she is a strong independent woman who will be dictated to by no man while Casey is stubborn and set in his ways with decided opinions about women.
Dating a Cougar is the first book of the Never Too Late series and base from the series name, I'm pretty sure the other books will include the stories of Alex's close friends, Regina and Lauren who's also in /5(K). Donna McDonald creates a world that makes starting over seem not only possible but well worth it! Alexa puts up barriers almost as fast as the determined Casey tears them down. Toss into that Alexa's daughter who is on the outs with Casey's younger cousin, Alexa's girlfriends who bring their own brand of advice, her assistant and his partner who want all the best for Alexa and it all just gets better. There is a lot of testing and building of trust and understanding before something happens to cause Alexa to acknowledge her feelings.
I really enjoyed much about this story and loved seeing both characters grow and grow together. At first, I cringed at how mean Alexa was and winced at how Casey handled things. I thought putting them together was a disaster which is why it was great when they finally worked past it.
Truthfully, even after reading the story I have trouble relating to Alexa even though I'm of an age with her. Much of the story I spent fascinated about how she saw things like when she got angry about stuff that I just didn't consider that big of a deal. But then I realized that under all that brass attitude, she was just being insecure.
Casey had me laughing a great deal of the time. He was straight-forward what you see is what you get much of the time, but that bit of vulnerability over his injured hip and about how Alexa saw him as a man because of it was endearing to me. This would appeal to those who enjoy a more than sassy middle-aged heroine with a chip on her shoulder and a commanding ex-Marine hero who knows what he wants and goes for it.

Check out my other listens at Eargasms Audiobook Reviews Oh my, what to say. There were elements of this book that I really enjoyed, but somehow it just felt slow. I really liked the premise and the characters, they were engaging and interesting. It just never went anywhere, the story line was drawn-out and lacking major conflicts. Well, not until the end. Alexa is a sassy mature woman, I really liked her throughout. She was confident and sure of herself.
I loved her attitude and casual self Check out my other listens at Eargasms Audiobook Reviews Oh my, what to say. I loved her attitude and casual self esteem. Casey was a great match for her, on the surface. Most of the time I loved him, but his attitude was annoying. She was personable and charismatic, he saw it as flirting. That was a point I was not in love with.
Fortunately, he chills a bit, I would not have been happy with the pairing if he had not relaxed. The steam is delicious!!
58-Year-Old "Cougar" Explains Benefits Of Dating Her 24-Year-Old "Cub"
Oh yeah, they get seriously smexy!! And Casey is a giver, if ya know what I mean. They get some hot and heavy action going, girl have a cold shower ready!! I love the supporting cast. They have serious potential for stories in the series. Each was interesting and really want to see them get their own HEA. There is a lot of story here.
It is a mixed narrative, switching between the lead characters POVs and even a few side trips into the supporting cast. It gives great insight into all their thoughts and motivations. The switches are always smooth and clearly defined. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Anne Johnstonbrown, She does a lovely job keeping the voices distinct and consistent. I really enjoyed her smooth and sassy tone, it really worked for the book.
She adds plenty of energy to the smexy scenes! There were time when the dialogue sounded stilted and a touch odd. Mostly when it was Alexa or her daughter. It was a touch distracting. Overall this was a really enjoyable read, it just needed a bit of editing down. Some of the day to day scenes slowed the momentum down. The last thing Alexa needs is another talk-show worthy drama in her already complicated life.
